Golden hour photography tips made my whole camera roll better, and not because I bought a fancier setup. The right twenty minutes of light does most of the work. I’m Zoey, and I basically live for that stretch right after the sun drops, when everything turns warm and soft. Here is how I actually shoot it with nothing more than a phone and a little planning.

When golden hour actually starts
Golden hour is the hour roughly around sunrise and sunset when the sun sits low and the light turns warm and directional. It is not actually a full hour everywhere. Right after a sunset, or right before sunrise, the good window can be closer to twenty minutes. Apps that track sunrise and sunset times help, but the simplest rule is to be outside about forty minutes before sunset and watch the light change. When the shadows get long and the warm tones come up, you are in it.
Phone settings that actually help
You do not need manual controls to get a good shot. Tap to lock focus on your subject, then pull the exposure down just a touch so the sky does not blow out. Leave the flash off, it kills the mood completely. If your phone lets you shoot in the raw camera mode, do that, it gives you more room to fix the light later. The golden trick is exposing for the highlights so the warm color stays in your subject instead of washing out.
Positioning for the best light
Face the light, do not stand with the sun behind you unless you want a silhouette. Side lighting is the most flattering because it shapes the face and adds depth. If you want that glowing halo effect, put the sun behind your subject and let the warm edge curl around them. The low angle of golden hour makes even simple shots look intentional.
What I do not post out in the open
